Core Retail Sales measures the change in the total value of sales at the retail level in the US, excluding automobiles. It is an important indicator of consumer spending which accounts for a large percentage of US GDP. A reading that is stronger than forecast is generally supportive for the USD, while a weaker than forecast reading is generally negative for the USD. The May Core Retail Sales index is expected to grow from 0.1% to 0.3%, while total sales will rise from –0.2% to 0.6%.
